Planning & Zoning Alternate - Joel Strong
My family and I have proudly called East Granby home for nearly 25 years. I grew up in neighboring Granby and attended GMMS and GMHS. After college, my wife and I briefly lived in Bloomfield before settling here to raise our family. She, too, is a Granby native and currently works as a nurse in Bloomfield.
All four of our children graduated from the East Granby school system. Our oldest daughter is an artist living in Hartford. Our second daughter, a graduate of Westfield State, is a nurse at CCMC in Hartford and received the EGHS Granby Ambulance Association College Scholarship. Our third child recently graduated from URI and is beginning her career in the medical field. Our son, a recent Lincoln Tech graduate and EGHS Galasso Tradesperson Scholarship recipient, now works as a welder at Shepherd Steel in Hartford.
As a hands-on engineer with experience in construction and building, I’ve completed extensive work on our home on Spoonville Road, including a large addition and a full renovation. I’ve worked closely with East Granby’s building inspectors and am well-versed in the planning and zoning process. This practical experience has given me a strong understanding of how thoughtful development, zoning regulations, and community planning impact residents and the long-term health of the town.
Over the years, I’ve had the opportunity to engage in many community and school events, building strong connections across generations. My family and I are active supporters of local businesses, and we care deeply about maintaining East Granby’s unique character while planning for responsible, sustainable growth.
I’m running for the Planning & Zoning Board because I want to contribute my experience and knowledge to support smart development that reflects the values of our residents. I’m committed to transparency, collaboration, and preserving the charm of our town while helping it thrive into the future. I would be honored to serve and help shape East Granby’s continued success.
A little of my background. I hold a BS in Industrial Technology from Buffalo State. I’ve worked in engineering management positions both in manufacturing and quality in the automotive industry as well pharmaceutical for nearly 30 years.I am currently the Director of Customer Care at Protedyne in Bloomfield. Protedyne is a wholly owned subsidiary of Labcorp. We manufacture and support patient specimen handling equipment for Labcorp, which is the largest diagnostic testing laboratory in the world. I joined there in 2009 as their Quality Manager and in 2015 transitioned to Manager of Customer Care. At that time, I had 15 employees who supported automation installations across the country for a total installed base of $15 million. I now manage 30 engineers in seven states across the country which support 9 of the largest laboratory automations systems in the world, for a total installed base of over $95 million. Our systems handle nearly 75,000 patient samples per night. I lead our Customer Care team which is responsible for providing 24 hour/365 support of our laboratory automation systems deployed throughout the USA.

Board of Assessment Appeals - Jim Luchina
Jim is a small business owner who moved to East Granby 13 years ago with his family. He has served on the zoning board of appeals, and is active in our community. Jim is a believer in strong values and fiscal responsibility.

Planning & Zoning Alternate - Levi Tyree
I was born in Alaska and grew up in the PNW where I met my wife. My wife Marcella Tyree and daughter Mari and I moved to East Granby in August of 2024. I have spent my career in construction and safety management, bringing both a builder’s mentality and a deep commitment to creating safe, sustainable communities.
For the past 3 years, I have served as the District Safety Manager for Mass Electric Construction, a Kiewit Corporation subsidiary based in Waltham, MA. Kiewit is the largest construction company in North America, and through my time with Kiewit I have worked on some of the nation’s most complex infrastructure projects — including the Seattle E360 and E130, Northgate transit extensions, the Federal Way Link Extension, and the Mud Mountain Dam Fish Passage project in Washington State. These projects earned multiple safety awards, including recognition from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
Before my safety management career, I spent a decade as a proud member of Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers Local 1 in Washington State. Altogether, I bring over 25 years of frontline and leadership experience in construction and safety.
I believe safety is everyone’s responsibility, and I lead by example — communicating clearly, listening openly, and inspiring teams to embrace safety as a core value. I want to bring this same mindset of responsibility, collaboration, and long-term vision to East Granby’s Planning and Zoning Commission.
The Commission’s work is critical to shaping our town’s future: reviewing site plans, special permits, subdivisions, zone changes, and land use regulations. With my background in construction, safety, and regulatory compliance, I am prepared to thoughtfully evaluate applications and balance growth with community values.
East Granby is our home. Together, we can protect what makes our town special while planning responsibly for its future. I look forward to serving you.
